Drobo Storage Robot Now Available Direct From Apple an With Time Machine

Data Robotics announced that its
Drobo desktop
storage array is now available at the online Apple Store.

Since its launch in June, Drobo has gained a loyal following
of Mac
customers and enthusiasts who have embraced it as the easiest-to-use,
most
expandable and safest multi-drive desktop storage array
available. Creative
professionals using Macs such as graphic designers, photographers
and video
editors, as well as educators and small business owners,
use Drobo to store
their most important data files.

"For artistic and design professionals who use storage arrays,
Drobo is by
far the best external storage device a Mac user could select,"
said Jillian
Mansolf, SVP of Sales at Data Robotics. "Our availability
in the online
Apple Store makes it that much easier for Apple enthusiasts
to purchase
Drobo."

Drobo is also fully compatible with Time Machine in Mac
OS X Leopard
from Apple. Considered one of the most anticipated
features of Leopard,
Time Machine does automatic backups of a user’s data and
programs on the
Mac. Time Machine requires an external storage device, such
as Drobo, to
store its archived data.

"If you value your data enough to use and appreciate Time
Machine, you
should be using the most reliable and expandable storage
solution
available. Drobo has won numerous awards and has been widely
recognized as
the best-of-class for storing personal and home office data,"
said Geoff
Barrall, CEO and co-founder of Data Robotics.

Once the Mac is connected to Drobo, backups are transparent
to users who
have enabled Time Machine. Designed to automatically back
up files, Time
Machine keeps a continual chain of backups over time, allowing
users to
easily recover lost files, directories or entire drives.
Whether a disk
drive fails, or a file is accidentally erased, Time Machine
ensures a copy
of a user’s data is always available when needed.

Time Machine requires a large, growing pool of storage to
keep personal and
work files safe — a perfect complement to the expandable
Drobo. To
increase storage capacity in Drobo, simply add a drive or
remove a drive
and replace it with a larger one. No tools are required.
Unlike other
storage arrays, Drobo uses patent-pending technology that
is designed for
non-technical users who demand reliability and elegant simplicity
without
the hassles of RAID systems.

In addition, Drobo offers more protection than using an
external USB or
FireWire drive. According to research from Data Robotics,
62 percent of
owners of USB or FireWire drives have lost data due to drive
failure.
Working together, Time Machine and Drobo are designed to
protect any drive
failure.

The 10.5.1 Leopard update is required to use Time Machine
with Drobo. This
update includes general operating system fixes that enhance
the stability,
compatibility and security of a Mac and will ensure a smooth
user
experience.

Drobo retails for $499 in the online Apple Store.

Up to now, innovative backup appliance Drobo was able to operate on Windows and Mac OS, but without CDP. Now it adds this functionality with the compatibility with Apple's Time Machine.
