320GB 2.5-inch HDD by Fujitsu

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. has launched its MHZ2 BH series mobile hard disk drive (HDD). The new Perpendicular Magnetic Recording drive series attains up to 320GB, the industry’s highest capacity point for a 2.5" 5400rpm HDD, and with the Serial ATA 3.0Gb/sec interface, delivers transfer speeds of up to 300MB per second. Developed in response to the growing demand for higher capacity storage products required for notebook PCs, compact PCs, consumer electronics and power-conscious applications, the MHZ2 BH will be available to customers in the first quarter of 2008.

Electrical power consumption is a major IT concern, where it is important for HDDs to use less power and generate less heat for the growing energy-conscious consumer, and still deliver optimum storage capacities. Utilizing the vast experience and innovative technology for HDDs developed over the past 40 years, Fujitsu enhances the 2.5" HDD line-up by introducing the new MHZ2 BH hard disk drive with best-in-class idle at 0.6W, and read/write power consumption of 1.9W. The 320GB 2.5" SATA drive is an ideal ecological solution for the growing demand of applications that require more capacity, performance, and reliability with less energy usage.

Comments

The original title of this press release is:" Fujitsu Announces Industry Highest Capacity 2.5" SATA Hard Disk Drive at 320GB". But, last August, 20, Toshiba has launched a 320GB notebook drive, the MKxx52GSX, with very similar specifications, to be available in 4Q07.

Since several years, we have remarked that Fujitsu and Toshiba are announcing the same type of 2.5-inch devices at about the same time.
