Arsenal Digital’s ViaBack Options Speed Backup and Recovery

Arsenal Digital Solutions USA, in on-demand data protection, announced the addition of ViaBack RecoveryPlus to its managed services portfolio. ViaBack RecoveryPlus allows customers to properly balance the need for disk-based performance and reliability in the data center, with market-proven and cost effective, secure tape options for long-term retention and "transportability."

ViaBack is Arsenal’s flagship data protection service for enterprises and vertically integrated hosting/service providers. Its been proven in the market for eight years by global enterprise customers and partners as a server backup, recovery and archive offering that is easy to manage, secure and affordable. By adding RecoveryPlus, the ViaBack service now directly addresses the primary business requirements of customers looking for tiered recovery services from a trusted solutions provider.

This service also brings leading data de-duplication technology and SATA-based disk support capabilities to the ViaBack service offering. As a result of utilizing data de-duplication and SATA-based disk, Arsenal customers can further maximize storage utilization rates, improve Recovery Point and Recovery Time Objectives (RPO/RTO), establish new levels of storage efficiency and lower overall backup and recovery costs.

RecoveryPlus is a component of Arsenal’s on-demand data protection strategy, and is a foundational element of Arsenal’s 2008 initiative to further develop information management and active archiving tools that complement its existing service offerings.

Customers and partners have embraced Arsenal’s fully managed ViaBack service to replace complex, "in-house" and error prone do-it-yourself (DIY) backup processes. According to a recent 2007 Enterprise Strategy Group data protection survey, 52 percent of customers worry that their backup schedule leaves some of their data exposed to potential loss. With RecoveryPlus, customers can choose the policy level that meets their data protection.

RecoveryPlus allows customers to greatly improve protection levels for critical storage and data, while cutting storage deployment and operational costs and mitigating many of the risks associated with traditional information management solutions. Users can now choose and allocate disk and tape resources to better manage specific backup storage and application environments.

The entire ViaBack service offering is protected by Arsenal’s service level agreements (SLAs), and includes 28 day on-site retention with an additional option for off-site vaulting. The ViaBack RecoveryPlus options being announced today include:

    * ViaBack RecoveryPlus Premier – targets customers requiring high levels of data protection for high change-rate databases and applications. RPO and RTO improvements are ensured with frequent incremental and full backups. Incremental backups to disk may be performed as often as every hour. Weekly full backups to disk are standard. ViaBack RecoveryPlus premier is available immediately in standard configurations.
    * ViaBack RecoveryPlus Value – reliable, basic protection for most types of data files, digital video, communications, and other non-compressible data sets. Incremental backups to disk may be performed as frequently as every 8 hours, improving RPO significantly over typical processes. ViaBack RecoveryPlus value is available today for customized configurations and will be available in a standard offering in Q1 2008.
