Three New Quantum Archive Solutions for Unstructured Data

Including Artico NAS appliance which can store and move data to public or private cloud, as well as tape, owered by StorNext

Quantum Corp. announced three archive solutions that empower customers to address the challenge of unstructured data growth with cost-effective tiered storage strategies:

  • Artico NAS appliance, which can store and move data to a public or private cloud, as well as tape.

  • A joint, certified solution combining DXi appliances and Rocket Arkivio Autostor software that can be used for both backup and archive data simultaneously.

  • A Lattus extended online storage offering with object storage nodes that integrate new 6TB HDDss for increased density and lower cost per terabyte.

These archive solutions can help customers save as much as 60% or more on total storage costs by moving data to lower-cost tiers of storage while offering a flexible, scalable approach to protecting data, improving backup windows and reducing network loads.

Artico: smart and simple archive
The Artico intelligent NAS appliance provides a flexible, entry point for archive, with the ability to scale to petabytes of data as demand grows. Powered by StorNext 5 data management policies, Artico enables customers to store and retain data in a tiered storage system that intelligently places the data on the right technology at the right time, both on-premise or in the cloud. The combination of Arkivio Autostor’s data migration tools with Artico’s StorNext-enabled policies also enables users to move files from primary storage to less expensive storage while maintaining full access to all files.

Other benefits include:

  • Artico’s integrated disk storage extends online access to stored content while reducing the need for primary storage.

  • NAS connectivity makes Artico easy to deploy and integrate into a data center and is well-suited to a wide range of environments.

  • With its data movement capabilities supporting LTO tape, LTFS, object storage and cloud archive targets, Artico balances data access with storage TCO.

  • Intelligent policies can create multiple archive copies and support multiple archive targets to deliver powerful levels of protection for archive data.

  • Combining Artico with Arkivio Autostor enables customers to share, store and protect files without backup software.

Extending the power of DXi with archiving

Arkivio-DXi-diagram3The DXi4700 and DXi6900 deduplication appliances have set standards for performance backup and overall value. These appliances can be used simultaneously for native format archiving. Complemented by Arkivio data archiving software, it offers both backup and archive functionality in the same multipurpose appliance, improving the ROI of a DXi investment:

  • Arkivio Autostor provides a solution to assess data attributes and enable intelligent policies based on those attributes for moving unstructured data from primary storage to a DXi appliance.

  • The combination of a DXi appliance and Arkivio software can help customers save in excess of 60% on total storage costs for each terabyte of unstructured data that is moved from primary storage to archive, while retaining access to the data when needed.

  • By storing files in their native format, Arkivio offers long-term data retention independent from backup software applications.

Data center efficiency with Lattus 6TB drives
Lattus leverages object storage technology to extend online storage and provide immediate data access with levels of scalability, durability and cost effectiveness. Today Lattus offering new S30 storage nodes with 6TB data center archive drives, providing 50% density while lowering cost per terabyte by 15%, compared to current S20 storage nodes. Lattus data spread technology delivers data durability and also enables new storage nodes to integrate seamlessly and non-disruptively into existing environments.

John Zammett, principal, HorizonTek, Inc., said, “Many of our customers are either struggling to find archive solutions suited to their environment or are seeking new ways to extend their data center investments. Quantum’s new archive solutions will help alleviate the pressures of data growth and meet the demand for smarter storage cost management.

Liz Conner, research manager, IDC, said: “As data growth continues to accelerate, most of this growth will be unstructured data, which puts even more pressure on overall storage budgets. To meet this challenge, Quantum continues to enhance its archive portfolio by addressing the rising significance and shifting economics of data retention.

Robert Clark, SVP, product operations, Quantum, said, “We’re seeing more data centers reaching a tipping point where their old approaches to backup and archive have simply been overwhelmed by unstructured data growth. When data is intelligently tiered to archive storage, the need for primary and backup storage can be reduced, dramatically improving operational efficiency while cutting a customer’s overall storage costs.
