IBM Storwize With New 12Gb SAS Drive Options

IBM Storwize product portfolio offers new drive options for increased capacity.

The Storwize storage solutions portfolio delivers higher capacity disk and flash drive options to increase system capacity for selected IBM Storwize models. The family of storage virtualization systems provides management of storage from entry and midrange up to enterprise disk systems, and enables hosts to attach through SAN, FCoE, or iSCSI to existing Ethernet networks. It is designed to be easy to use, enabling existing staff to start working with it rapidly. The family uses virtualization, thin provisioning, and compression technologies to improve storage utilization and meet changing needs quickly and easily.

The integrated Storwize software allows customers
to reduce the complexity and cost of managing storage by:

  • Enabling administrators to manage storage volumes from a single, centralized point
  • Improving virtual volumes to enable businesses to utilize external storage capacity
  • Avoiding downtime for backups, maintenance, and upgrades
  • Performing data migration without disruption to applications
  • Restoring data access quickly with near and remote copy capabilities
  • HyperSwap capability by delivering HA and DR in one solution.

     

 In this way, Storwize Family products are the complement to server virtualization strategies.

The following disk and flash drives, which are dual-port and hot-swappable,  are now available on the Storwize V3500, V3700, V5000, and V7000:

  • 2TB 7,200rpm 12Gb SAS NL 2.5-inch HDD
  • 8TB 7,200rpm 12Gb SAS NL 3.5-inch HDD
  • 1.6TB 12Gb SAS 2.5-inch SSD

Note: When installed in the Storwize V7000, the drives support transfer rates of up to 12Gb/s. When installed in the Storwize V3500, Storwize V3700 and Storwize V5000, the transfer rates are up to 6Gb/s.

The new SAS cables, which are available for the IBM EXP2500, are included in these offerings and come in 1-meter and 3-meter lengths.

Key prerequisites

  • The disk drives in this announcement require IBM Storwize Family Software V7.4, or later, or Storwize licensed machine code level 7.4, or later.
  • The flash drive requires IBM Storwize Family Software V6.4, or later, or Storwize licensed machine code level 6.4, or later.
