The new Performance Module feature offers increased processor speeds, large memory capacities, and double the scalability of disk drive expansion and premium feature functions.

The DCS37000 with the Performance Modules takes advantage of the capabilities of the enhanced disk drive technologies such as Dynamic Disk Pooling, to offer processing abilities to HPC industries such as oil and gas, life sciences, and media applications in large corporate and government labs.

Each performance module brings four 8Gb FC host ports, dual GbE ports, and a 6Gb SAS expansion connection to the DCS3700. A slot is available for additional host interface cards, such as a new 4 port 8Gb FC host interface card (HIC). There are three slots for DDR3 memory DIMMs in 2, 4, and 8GB capacities, for a total of up to 6, 12, or 24GB of memory for the canister, for a total of up to 12, 24, or 48GB for the DCS3700 system with Performance Modules.

In addition to the increased memory scalability, the DCS37000 outfitted with performance modules will have increased scalability in drive capacity, with two 6Gb SAS ports to redundantly connect to up to five EXP3700 expansion enclosures, doubling the current number of attached disks to 360. Using the 3TBNL SAS drive options yields over 1 PB of raw disk capacity.

Loaded with the latest code, the base DCS3700 with the Performance Modules uses Dynamic Disk Pooling to provide thin provisioning and larger volumes. Disk pooling brings more efficient FlashCopies, roll back FlashCopies, and consistency groups. The Performance Modules allow double the number of FlashCopy instances, up to 2,048. With the Performance Module, a special bundle of FlashCopy and VolumeCopy offers up to 2,048 FlashCopies and up to 511 Volume copies per array.

The DCS3700 with the Performance Module
is supported for attachment to selected:

  • IBM System x , IBM BladeCenter , and IBM Power System servers and blades
  • Intel and AMD processor-based servers
