From CalDigit, External HDD With USB Type C Connector and PCIe SSD RAID

First one at $140 with 1TB, second one at $2,500 with 2TB.

CalDigit, Inc. revealed two brand storage solutions at NAB 2015.

CalDigit-HP-Hero-Tuff-2015

The first is the Tuff portable storage solution. This USB 3.1 external drive features the brand USB Type-C connector, for use with the new MacBook that features the USB Type-C interface. The second product is the T4 nano, a 4-bay PCIe SSD RAID storage device that features HDMI output to connect to a monitor. This Thunderbolt2 solution, is a compact RAID-0, 1, 5 and JBOD device that utilizes four PCIe SSDs, with speeds up to 1,375MB/s.

Tuff portable solution is an storage device, featuring USB 3.1, that brings the power and versatility of the brand USB Type-C interface along with a tough durable design for use in extreme environments.

The USB Type-C interface features a reversible design, and is the interface for use with such a small portable device. The Tuff portable storage solution features USB 3.1, with up to 10Gb/s bandwidth, which is ideal for this type of device, as it supports fast SSDs as well as standard 2.5″ spinning disks.

The Tuff is a choice for people who backup their data on location, such as photographers or filmmakers who need to save secure copies of their files fast. It is shock resistant, splash proof, and dust proof, making it the drive for use on the road. It is bus-powered meaning there is no need to connect to an external power source. CalDigit will also soon be releasing a product called the Tuff Dock that will allow Tuff users to connect their Tuff HDDs directly to the Tuff Dock to start working with the files right away.

The Tuff is backwards compatible with previous versions of USB, such as USB 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, thanks to the included USB Type-C to A cable. Therefore, it can be used by any Mac or PC user who is not yet using the Type-C interface.

As more people are backing-up data on location, they need tough and robust storage solutions to keep their files safe when on the road. The Tuff’s combination of solid design, and powerful USB 3.1 connectivity, make portable storage not just fast, but also incredibly secure,” said Kosta Panagos, MD, CalDigit.

T4 Nano – PCIe SSD RAID

T4Nano-1

The T4 nano is a small 4-bay RAID-0, 1, 5 and JBOD Thunderbolt 2 storage solution with performance for use in 4K workflows. The T4 nano uses four removable PCIe SSDs that give the device performance up to 1,375MB/s, ideal for content creators.

Featuring, storage capacities of 2TB, the T4 nano has a small profile for such a storage device. The Thunderbolt 2 connectivity allows users to daisy-chain up to 6 devices together. The aluminum design includes LED lights that show when the drives are in use.

It has HDMI output. Not only can the T4 nano deliver performance, it also allows users to connect a HDMI display direct to the device.

Users who work with high-resolution 4K footage need fast storage that they know will playback their files without a hitch. The T4 nano achieves the fastest possible performance through the Thunderbolt 2 interface. The small compact design means that users can move the T4 nano from location to location with ease, and also daisy-chain extra devices“, said Panagos.

CalDigit is offering a one-time upgrade program that will allow owners of the T4 nano to upgrade the interface connectivity of the unit when a future iteration of the unit becomes available.

In the past 4-bay RAID storage solutions would have taken up a lot of desk space. The T4 nano’s compact form-factor reduces desk clutter, is quiet, and has performance. This makes the T4 nano the storage solution to speed up 4K workflows.

The Tuff will be available from July 2015, and T4 nano will be available to purchase from Q3 2015.

The Tuff will start at $139.99 MSRP for the 1TB HDD version, and the T4 nano will be available for $2,499.99 for the 2TB PCIe SSD version.
