From two German VCs

Starboard Storage Systems, Inc., in Application-Crafted Storage for simplifying the management of mixed workloads, has received $13 million in their Series B round of funding.

JP Ventures GmbH and existing investor Grazia Equity GmbH participated in the round. JP Ventures is a venture investor in technology start-up companies, headquartered in Öhringen, Germany. Grazia Equity is based in Stuttgart and Munich, Germany and is one of Europe’s top names in venture capital. The Grazia Equity and JP Ventures teams have helped to build over 40 European and American businesses.

"We believe Starboard Storage has the right team and technology and we are excited about our partnership with them. The combination of Starboard Storage Systems‚ leading solutions and the team‚s proven ability to execute sets it apart from other storage start-ups," said Jan Philippiak, managing partner, JP Ventures GmbH. "We are pleased to provide the funding to accelerate the growth of its customer base and build strong reseller relationships that will make it the winner in this market."

The Starboard AC72 Storage System, with its MAST Architecture and support for both solid state and hard disk drives, simplifies storage management in IT environments by leveraging patented dynamic pooling and autonomic storage tiering technologies. The AC72 delivers twice the performance at half the cost of competing unified storage systems.

"Over 1.5PB of our AC72s have been sold and installed since the launch a few months ago. This is a strong validation that our Application-Crafted Storage solution is ideal for consolidating the management of mixed workloads," said Victor Walker, CEO, Starboard Storage Systems. "We will use these funds to expand sales, marketing and operations to support our rapidly growing customer demand."

"Starboard Storage has great traction within the SME marketplace with more than 50 resellers actively selling the AC72," stated Bill Chambers, executive chairman, Starboard Storage Systems. "Starboard Storage is well positioned for success."
