Flash Drive Options for IBM Storwize

IBM SAN Volume Controller and Storwize Family deliver enhanced flexibility and increased scalability.

A 1.92 TB, 12GB SAS, 2.5-inch read-intensive flash drive option is now available
for the following IBM System Storage models:

Storwize V5000 models 124, 224, 324, and 24F
Storwize V7000 models 524 and 24F
SVC Model 24F

These drives are dual-port, hot-swappable, enterprise flash drives suitable for read intensive application workloads demanding cost-sensitive high performance.

IBM SVC offers the following enhancements:

SVC LFF Expansion Enclosure Model 12F delivers support for up to twelve 3.5-inch 12Gb NL-SAS HDD drives
SVC SFF Expansion Enclosure Model 24F supports HDD drives in addition to existing SSDs for up to twenty-four 2.5-inch drives

Up to two expansion enclosures are supported by a Model DH8 node pair or I/O group delivering up to 24 disk drives and 192TB of internal raw capacity in the LFF Expansion Enclosure Model 12F and up to 48 drives and 153.6TB of internal raw capacity in the SFF Expansion Enclosure Model 24F.

3.2TB, 12GB SAS, 2.5-inch flash drive optio now available following Storwize models:

V3700 models 24C, 24E, 2DC, and 2DE
V5000 models 24C and 24E

These drives are dual-port and hot-swappable, offering higher capacity options for high-performance environments. These drives support data transfer rates of up to 6Gb/s when installed in Storwize V3700 and Storwize V5000 Gen1 systems.

Key prerequisites

The following model, enhancements and features require IBM Spectrum Virtualize version 7.7, or later, for operation:

SVC LFF Expansion Enclosure Model 12F and optional features
SVC SFF Expansion Enclosure Model 24F support for HDD drives and optional features

The 1.92TB 12Gb SAS 2.5-inch read-intensive flash drive requires IBM Spectrum Virtualize version 7.6.1.4, or later, for operation.

The 3.2TB 12Gb SAS 2.5-inch flash drive requires Storwize Family Software version 7.4, or later, for operation.

December 9, 2016: SVC LFF Expansion Enclosure Model 12F and optional features in Argentina and India.
