Supporting 6TB self-encrypted HDDs and VMware Virtual Volumes

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 and IBM XIV cloud Storage for Service Providers V11.5.1 are designed to help improve TCO with cost-efficient and 6TB SEDs. XIV with self-encrypted HDDs enables to store 50% more data than 4TB drives using the same space and power, delivering up to 12% lower price per terabyte and 33% lower power consumption per terabyte.

IT provides support for VMware Virtual Volumes (VVOL) and SMI-6 1.6 with an ENERGY STAR-certified environmental footprint for THE data center. Support for VVOL will be provided through IBM Storage Integration Server v2.0.

VVOL are designed to enable upcoming vSphere environments to easily automate XIV provisioning, offload snapshots and cloning, and instantly reclaim space, all at the virtual-machine level. Systems will benefit from XIV hotspot-free performance predictability and extreme capacity utilization, delivered through the IBM Storage Integration Server.

SMI-S 1.6 latest protocol certification helps build dynamic, scalable, secure Microsoft-based cloud storage infrastructures with instant integration with Microsoft System Center VM Manager 2012.
