vStandby AIP usage scenarios
Here are examples of how vStandby AIP can be used:

  • ActiveImage Protector is creating regular backups of a Windows Server or Workstation.

  • Company’s ImageCenter, a free replication and consolidation tool for ActiveImage Protector, is used to replicate full and incremental disk images to a secure offsite location.

  • At the offsite location, vStandby AIP creates and maintains a standby VM on a VMware ESXi host, using the full and incremental disk images created by ActiveImage Protector.

  • Should the local source machine fail due to natural disaster or system failure, the standby VM can be immediately booted for instant switchover, bypassing a lengthy and costly restoration process.

Main features:

  • Creates virtual standby machines for instant switchover availability
vStandby AIP uses ActiveImage Protector backup image files to create an instantly bootable standby VM, ready for immediate switchover.

  • Monitors storage folders where backup image files are saved
vStandby AIP can update a standby VM once a new incremental image file is detected or according to a task schedule.

  • Creates standby VMs offsite using replicated backup image files
Company’s ImageCenter, a free replication and consolidation tool for ActiveImage Protector, replicates backup image files to either local or remote destinations, allowing vStandby AIP to create a standby VM at an offsite location.

  • DR with instant failover to a standby VM
vStandby AIP users can instantly start a standby VM for immediate switch over recovery for guaranteed BC. vStandby AIP bypasses lengthy P2V conversion and restoration by creating an instantly bootable standby VM from backup image files, offering a true DR solution.

  • Affordable solution
vStandby AIP is offered on a flexible licensing plan based on the type and number of backup image files used to create standby VMs.

Practical usage scenarios for vStandby AIP:

  • A service provider is tasked to provide a replacement virtual server in the event a client’s system fails.

  • Standby virtual VMs of mission critical servers are created at a remote site. In the event the source machine fails, a standby VM can be immediately started for instant switchover recovery.

  • Effective P2V server migration is performed without taxing or overloading the source server.
