Dell Software Revealing Backup and DR Suite at $2,250/TB to Protect 250TB

Including AppAssure, NetVault Backup and vRanger with single capacity-based license

Dell Software, a division of Dell Inc., announced the Backup & DR Suite, a data protection bundle that gives customers access to the company’s backup and recovery software portfolio by way of a single capacity-based licensing model.

Dell Software’s first combined data protection offering, the Backup & DR Suite includes AppAssure, NetVault Backup and vRanger, delivering three variations of critical enterprise and virtualization backup software in one package to help customers create a resilient application environment across physical, virtual or cloud infrastructures.

Traditional one-size-fits-all data protection strategies are forcing customers to choose between overpaying for capabilities they don’t need, or under-protecting mission-critical assets they can’t live without. With Backup & DR Suite, customers can better align backup to business by mixing and matching data protection technologies to create a custom solution based upon their needs, in turn helping make their businesses more resilient.

Priced by front-end terabyte, the Backup & DR Suite features a capacity-based licensing model that enables customers to access the specific data protection capabilities they need without having to overpay for those they don’t. Users can classify the criticality of their data and applications, and then use the specific product that best matches the recovery requirements of a given asset.

The combination of AppAssure, NetVault Backup and vRanger gives customers access to a range of end-to-end backup and recovery capabilities in a single suite. AppAssure enables customers to backup entire applications and data in minutes, and restore ins across physical, virtual and cloud environments; NetVault Backup delivers cross-platform, enterprise-grade protection with ease of use; and vRanger delivers scalable, agentless protection for both VMware and Hyper-V.

Customers can use the suite in any combination they desire. For example, users might initially leverage AppAssure to perform snapshots of mission-critical data every 15 minutes, and once that data ages, use NetVault Backup to move it to tape for long-term retention or archive.

Customers can reduce costs by paying for only what they need today, and adding additional capacity down the road as their data grows. Tiered pricing for the suite starts at just $5,000/TB for up to 5TB of front-end capacity, and, through volume discount pricing, reaches as low as $2,250/TB for users protecting more than 250TB of data, to help customers save as their needs expand.

The Backup & DR Suite will be available worldwide in the third quarter of 2014, both direct from Dell or through the channel. AppAssure, NetVault Backup and vRanger all remain available as individually priced, standalone offerings. All three are available direct from Dell or through the channel.

Brett Roscoe, executive director of product development, data protection, Dell Software, said: “When it comes to backup and recovery, customers are all too often forced to choose between overpaying or under-protecting. With today’s announcement, Dell is eliminating this need to compromise. The Dell Backup & DR Suite gives customers the flexibility to leverage our entire portfolio of backup software solutions by way of a single, capacity-based licensing model. We continue to innovate and develop new capabilities and solutions, and with this announcement, we are assuring customers they’ll have access to all of Dell industry leading backup capabilities. The Dell Backup & DR Suite delivers a combination of cost, capabilities and simplicity no other backup vendor can match.”
