Commvault Systems, Inc. launched Clinical Archive to modernize the way healthcare organizations manage, migrate, and share clinical data.

Announcement was made at HIMSS 2016, being held February 29 – March 4, in Las Vegas, where this year’s conference theme was ‘ransforming Health through IT.

As hospitals and healthcare providers look to control costs and improve patient care, centralizing information management using Clinical Archive breaks down data silos, reduces storage costs and complexity, enables better data sharing, and eliminates the costs of maintaining and supporting legacy applications.

Following Commvault’s strategic investment in Laitek Inc., in data migration and storage services for PACS replacements, Commvault developed a solution built on the Commvault Data Platform and Laitek’s Semperdata platform to assure data migration and enable easy clinical data management for healthcare providers. Through this integration, Clinical Archive becomes the first solution that can address data management in both the clinical and business sides of healthcare in a single platform.

As a result, providers can decommission legacy PACS solutions into a single data management platform, while making legacy studies accessible to new PACS solutions and available for bulk migration. Specifically, data is extracted from legacy PACS in its original format, normalized and migrated into the clinical archive in a standard format for interoperability and then stored for future use. Further, Clinical Archive can be used as a vendor-neutral repository for all clinical information that traditional VNAs strive to achieve. The hardware-independent nature of Commvault’s platform supports a range of cloud, on premise, physical and virtual environments, to fit each healthcare organization’s business and patient care needs.

IDC Research validates healthcare data management needs
According to recent research by the IDC, 40% of healthcare providers in the US report IT budgets are still growing, with key investments focused on clinical applications including electronic health records and analytics.(*) With the medical community experiencing a significant shift towards centralizing data and records, the Clinical Archive provides an opportunity for providers to address enterprise data management issues, legacy PACS decommissioning and medical image archiving.
