Mellanox Collaborates With Microsoft

To demo Storage Replica over long-haul using MetroX

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced a storage replication solution over long distance collaboration with Microsoft Corporation at the Ignite 2015 conference.

The collaboration utilizes Microsoft’s next generation Windows Server 2016 Storage Replica technology over Mellanox’s MetroX long-haul system and FDR 56Gb/s IB interconnect solution, including adapters, switches, and cables, to enable data center expansion, HA, rapid DR and improved utilization of remote storage infrastructures.

Storage Replica is a feature that enables storage-agnostic, block-level, synchronous replication between clusters or servers for DR, as well as stretching of a failover cluster for HA. Synchronous replication enables mirroring of data in physical sites with crash-consistent volumes ensuring zero data loss at the file system level. Asynchronous replication allows site extension beyond metropolitan ranges with the possibility of data loss.

MetroX systems enable localization of remote data center sites, from 1km to 80km, and guarantee performance, high-volume data sharing between distant sites.

MetroX is the perfect cost-effective, low power, easily managed solution that enables today’s data centers to run over local and distributed RDMA enabled fabrics, with management under a single unified network infrastructure,” said Kevin Deierling, VP marketing, Mellanox. “Using the scalability and performance built into Microsoft’s Storage Spaces technology and Mellanox MetroX long-haul and end-to-end IB solution, data centers can perform critical services such as DR at extended distances faster and more efficiently.

This technology demonstration highlights how Storage Replica, combined with Mellanox’s MetroX long-haul system and end-to-end FDR 56Gb/s IB, helps enable user availability, expansion and utilization of remote storage infrastructures,” said Siddhartha Roy, principal group program manager, HA and Storage, Windows Server, Microsoft.
