Emulex I/O Connectivity Solutions for Server Based on Xeon Processor E5-2600/1600 v3

With OneConnect family of Ethernet, CNAs and 16Gb HBAs

Emulex Corporation anounced that its OneConnect family of Ethernet and CNAs and LightPulse Gen 5 16Gb FC HBAs are optimized for the next generation of servers based on the new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 v3 product families (formerly code-named Haswell), delivering added performance, scalability and efficiency.

Emulex I/O connectivity solutions are designed to support next generation workloads such as big data analytics in-memory databases, VDI, and emerging compute architectures, such as network functions virtualization for telco and OpenStack or OpenCompute-based cloud computing.

The new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 v3 product families provide one of the fundamental building blocks to support scale-out, cloud architectures and next generation workloads. The new Emulex OneConnect OCe14000 family of Ethernet adapters is designed to maximize many of the new workloads that leverage the new Intel Xeon platform such as big data analytics, Ethernet-based storage, SAP Hana in-memory databases, the telco transition to NFV and classic enterprise workloads,” said Shaun Walsh, SVP marketing, Emulex. “Emulex is particularly excited about the new Intel Xeon platform because it can change the way applications are delivered and the scale with which people can communicate and interact. It does this with a footprint and a power window that is beneficial both from a cost and environmental perspective.

As enterprises increase workloads on their servers with bigger databases, faster applications, high density virtualization and cloud computing, data center infrastructure needs to keep pace. LightPulse HBAs and OneConnect Ethernet Network adapters and CNAs provide the CPU efficiency and scalability needed to support the increased processor core count, improved memory performance, and faster PCIe throughput in the Xeon Processor E52600/1600 v3 product family to allow customers to scale their environments while keeping pace with the increasing computing needs of modern applications.

Benefits of Emulex I/O connectivity solutions for the Intel product family include:

  • Increased Server Efficiency: vEnginestorage and overlay network protocol offloads combined with the 50% greater core count and double the memory using the latest DDR technology in the new Xeon processors, increase server efficiency with the ability to support more VMs or virtual desktop instances (VDIs) per server.
  • Scalable Application Performance: New Xeon processors deliver increased PCIe device scalability, supporting more adapters per server, enabling increased I/O capacity and performance for applications, such as virtualization, flash, and database management systems.
  • Improved Network Bandwidth Utilization: Emulex Virtual Network Exceleration technology offloads the header encapsulation process of next generation overlay network protocols such as Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulation and Virtual Extensible LAN, allowing customers to maintain CPU utilization thresholds and reduce CPU usage fluctuations while adding more workloads to each server in virtual networking environments.
