53 Sponsors Up to Now for Coming Powering the Cloud Event in Frankfurt

Lowest figure since 2007 for more German oriented show

Powering the Cloud – co-located With Data Center World – will happen next October 28-29 in Frankfurt, Germany.

If it continues to be the biggest European storage show in Europe, the industry is less and less inclined to participate. Up o now 53 sponsors have signed to exhibit. They were 72 last year and this figure is the lowest since 2007.

Last year there were 1,642 visitors. “We’re having some great registrations and are expecting in excess of 3,000 plus attendees“, wrote us in an email Thomas Standley, group show and digital director from Thomas Standley from CloserStill Media, new owner of the event since its acquisition from Angel Business Communications last April. But generally the number of registrations is lower than the number of effective visitors.

The former name of the event, SNW (for Storage Networking World) Europe, has disappeared this year but it continues to be essentially a show for storage vendors. Several of them are in cloud storage but few sponsors are also involved in cloud computing.

More than that, we note the absence of big names in the storage industry: Avago/LSI, EMC, HP, Micron, Seagate, Symantec or WD. And several other storage firms are in fact represented by their German subsidiary, not their European or worldwide entity, like Brocade, Datacore, FalconStor Fujitsu, HDS, Nutanix or Unitrends. IBM is in the list below sent by the organizer, but not on the show’s web site.

For the former event in Frankfurt, we reproached regularly in the past the fact that they were not enough promoted outside Germany, explaining why the vast majority of visitors were from this country. Here it will be worst. For example, there are a total of 19 conferences at Keynote Theater on cloud computing during the two days, but only 3 in English.

One of the reasons is probably that organizer CloserStill Media has also another event in UK, Cloud Expo Europe, and visibly does not want Frankfurt in competition with London.

Powering the Cloud is now essentially a German event, no more an European one.
