South Korean Distiller Hite Jinro Adopts Violin Memory

And achieves "20 times higher I/O performance" for Oracle business intelligence system.

Violin Memory, Inc. announced that South Korean distiller Hite Jinro Co, Ltd has adopted its Flash Storage Platform 7300.

The deployment replaces the company’s existing HDD-based storage with an all-flash solution that optimizes business intelligence and management information system performance in the Oracle database environment. After migration, Hite Jinro achieved up to 20 times higher I/O performance for its Oracle BI system compared to its previous HDD-based solution, while reducing the amount of time required for extract, transfer and load (ETL) functions and night batch work by two thirds.

The 7300 FSP is a primary storage solution ensuring IO/s performance and response time under 1ms. Subsequently, Hite Jinro plans to expand the use of all-flash storage solutions to more enterprise applications, including online analytical processing (OLAP) and online transaction processing (OLTP).

All-flash storage provides an optimal foundation for us to gain real-time business insights by maximizing performance applied in core business areas, as opposed to only specific high-performance areas,” said Kang Hyeon-sun, CIO, Hite Jinro. “Violin Memory’s 7300 FSP not only maximizes the performance of key applications throughout enterprise data service functionalities, but also provides the flexibility to respond to rapidly changing markets with higher agility, ultimately delivering a quicker ROI.

Prior to adopting 7300 FSP, partial backup took about a day. Those same partial backup functions can be performed in five to six hours, due in part to the 7300’s snapshot function, which enables incremental snapshots to be done instantly.

The 7300 FSP offers a range of functions that provide stability and BC for enterprise applications, including snapshot, cloning, thin provisioning, reproduction, remote reproduction and removal of redundancy. It can also preemptively identify potential flash storage issues that might cause a disruption to operations, such as heat radiation and durability challenges, via its remote equipment monitoring capabilities and support-optimized operations through regular system training. The ability to detect potentially damaging issues early on, in turn, enables enterprises to avoid system disruptions that could cost hours of lost productivity due to down time.

Applying all-flash storage to core business areas is expanding at a higher speed,” said Youngsoo Lee, Violin Memory’s Korea country manager. “Our full compliance with an SLA required for business critical applications and rising cost competitiveness relative to existing disk storage solutions give the company a bigger differentiator in many industries that face increasingly fierce competition, such as manufacturing and retail.
