The project is a result of a collaborative effort between Mellanox, CSRA, Inc., DataDirect Networks, Inc. (DDN), and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Development LP (HPE).

The Biowulf cluster is NIH’s core HPC facility, with more than 55,000 cores. More than 600 users from 24 NIH institutes and centers will leverage the supercomputer to enhance their computationally intensive research.

The Biowulf cluster, utilizing Mellanox’s 100Gb/s EDR IB smart interconnect solutions, supports a wide range of computational applications for genomics, molecular and structural biology, mathematical, graphical and image analysis, so that researchers at NIH can expedite their mission-critical projects,” said Dale D’Alessio, CEO Mellanox Federal Systems. “Mellanox Federal Systems is proud to be a member of the team implementing this system as we all work together to advance the speed at which NIH can execute scientific research.

Mellanox Federal Systems is providing both the core IB switching and IB-to-Ethernet gateways, allowing for integration with legacy computing resources.
