Manufacturier of Forestry Machines Ponsse Opts for Proact

Proact IT Group AB delivers redundant active data centres to forestry machine manufacturer Ponsse Plc.

Europe independent systems integrator, Proact, is delivering a data centre solution for Ponsse, inf manufacturing forestry machines specialising in the cut-to-length method

Proact is in charge of delivering to Ponsse two redundant data centres both of them running applications simultaneously featuring EMC Corp.‘s VNX and VPLEX technologies. It will also take care of installation, data migration and staff training. Ponsse required a solution for a larger storage space with expansion options. The company was also in need of IT-support services that are available 24×7.

“We needed to find a scalable, reliable storage system for storing customer data as well as product data critical to our business operations. The system will also speed up our data processing,” describes Ponsse’s IT director Arto Haaksluoto.

The CTL (cut-to-length) method involves cutting timber on-site in the forest to a suitable length according to its intended use. Ponsse’s IT systems will simultaneously report directly to their customers the type and quantity of the delivered timber. Forestry machines are manufactured in two shifts when the factory is operating at full capacity. This means that any production disruptions will have a direct impact on deliveries to customers.
