iTalkBB leveraged its existing infrastructure investments, and, with the addition of the Violin all-flash array and all-flash appliance solutions, improved its service levels by 10 times.

The on-demand portion of iTalkBB’s television product offering is one of its largest growth opportunities. Customers can choose from up to 50TB of video on-demand content, with roughly 10% of it considered ‘hot’ content viewed by many customers simultaneously. Because of the challenge of predicting which content will be ‘hot’ at any given time, iTalkBB turned to the Violin Maestro appliance for a cost-effective solution to scale less-viewed ‘cold’ content while still servicing changes in demand.

In addition to having a unique technology solution that met our requirements, Violin delivered an unprecedented level of customer service by helping us optimize our network switches, server environment, and video on-demand application configuration,” said Frank Landavazo, director of network operations, iTalkBB.

Before implementing the Maestro all-flash appliance and Violin 6000 Series all-flash array, iTalkBB experienced latency during peak video on-demand periods of 300 milliseconds and risked not meeting customer service levels. The Maestro solution allowed iTalkBB to leverage its existing SAN, which included Oracle storage and Fujitsu server hardware, and increased the bandwidth to its most popular video content. Violin’s all-flash solution delivers 1 million IO/s and more than 6GB/s for iTalkBB, while tiering data in real-time based on demand.

Violin is all about delivering real solutions for real workloads. We are proud to help iTalkBB improve service levels for over one million customers with on-demand content,” said Eric Herzog, CMO, Violin. “We have enabled iTalkBB with an architecture that allows them to scale cost-effectively, while delivering an excellent customer experience.

Violin and iTalkBB were at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
