German Logistics Provider DOM Kurier Renews Storage With Open-E, Fujitsu and Citrix

Open-E, Inc. presented a new customer case featuring its proven DSS V7 (Storage Software V7).

Logistics provider DOM Kurier GmbH from Germany was looking to renew their existing IT infrastructure with a comprehensive solution that required a significant increase in performance and storage capacity. As backup was currently running on one level only, the company required a cost-efficient solution for more redundancy. Also, the whole environment should be easy to scale and migrate to meet future demands.

The solution was planned and executed by DOM Kurier’s consulting system house and A-H-S Computer, an Open-E partner. They implemented an iSCSI solution with Fujistu PRIMERGY hardware and installed PRIMERGY TX2540 M1 systems with the latest version 6.5 of Xenserver for virtualization. The main storage now consists of PRIMERGY SX150 S8 servers based on DSS V7 storage software.

On software and replication levels, DOM Kurier’s infrastructure is now running on DSS V7 and Unitrends Virtual Backup software which both provide redundancy and cold stand-by functionality. By mirroring all data with the replication feature in DSS V7, downtimes can be reduced to ensure BC. By using the cluster functionality, both hardware and software can be easily adjusted with Open-E’s workflows as business requirements grow. For the hardware setup, A-H-S Computer installed the latest components by Fujitsu and Bytec, which are both certified for Citrix XenSever.

Christian Oswald, CEO, DOM Kurier, confirmed the success of the project: “The basic idea behind the new processes was the increased requirements that logistic providers needed to fulfill.
