Yet Another Storage Start-Up: InteliSAN

In stealth mode and apparently in SAN/NAS appliance

For sure, it’s a storage start-up. Its president confirmed to StorageNewsLetter.com: "Yes, it is a start-up and we are working on our software development now. When we get closer to release I will be glad to provide you with a lot information about our products." But he said no more.

Who is Bahman Jalali (B.J.), president of InteliSAN Corporation in stealth mode, based in San Diego, CA,
and apparently founded four years ago?

intelisan_storage_startup_2 He has long career in the storage industry, previously serving in a dual role as the director of product Management and engineering at Stonefly in charge of IP SAN and NAS products. Prior to that, he founded Tripylon Networks and created the iSCSI target software product that subsequently was acquired by Siafu Software and drove Siafu’s engineering and product development until acquired by Hifn. His product management experience comes from positions with storage companies such as JNI, nStor, HDS while his technical fundamentals come from 14 years of engineering experience with NCR. His areas of expertise include iSCSI, FC, IB, virtualization, SAN, NAS, SCSI, hub, switch, disk array, JBOD, PCI, Ethernet, and other I/O interfaces. He hold U.S. patent No: 4,825,402 for A Multi-configurable Driver/Receiver circuit for a Computer Peripheral Adapter.

What is preparing InteliSAN?
Jalali speaks about software development, but probably for an hardware product. We found on the web a document from IntelSAN with a complete description of a SAN/NAS storage appliance corresponding exactly to his knowledge.

This iBrick 3000 is 3U RAID-6 rackmounted storage appliance using Microsoft’s Windows Unified Data Storage Server (WUDSS) iSCSI and NAS software. It contains 16 hot swap 3.5-inch SATA HDDs and is powered by quad core Xeon processor. There are three models: IB3800 with 8TB (16x500GB HDDs), IB31200 with 12TB (16x750GB) and IB31600 with 16TB (16x1000GB) raw capacity. They are connected to the host by dual GbE ports. Applications include snapshots and replication.

There is another model, the iBrock 1000 with globally the same specs but in 1U and 4 HDDs in RAID-5.

Combined NAS and iSCSI SAN are the latest trend in storage subsystems to manage blocks and files for SMBs, but InteliSAN is far to be alone in this market. Current trend is also to design these storage products with 2.5-inch hard disk drives for smaller footprint.

InteliSAN is one of the 333 known alive storage start-ups in the world
