ClearSky Data Extends Services

To NYC and Washington DC

The traditional model for storage is failing, and transforming to a hybrid cloud model is at the top of CIO agendas.

But, bringing primary data to the cloud is almost impossible for many large enterprises. Customers and partners constantly tell us they need a smarter way than buying new boxes to scale enterprise storage. Enterprises want to apply the economics and flexibility of the cloud to every workload, and to pursue data center transformation.

That’s why ClearSky Data, Inc.‘s CTO Lazarus Vekiarides and CEO Ellen Rubin, from the beginning, prepared to go to market with a service-based model for primary storage – one that helps customers transform. Customers have begun to stop managing infrastructure, and instead, simply plug into a network and access all of their data when they want it, where they need it. The company is expanding that service to NYC and Washington, D.C., making managed primary storage a reality for new customers.

Companies in these metros want to extend beyond the data center and move large amounts of data to the cloud, but they fear they’ll face limited Internet performance and speed. These are companies with virtualized database applications or operational analytics platforms with inherent low-latency requirements.

One example of this type of application that the firm seee across all of its metro locations is Splunk, Inc., the operational analytics platform. For one telecommunications customer using Splunk daily, the platform has grown the amount of data it analyzes by 47 times since 2012. Enterprises like this one are struggling with limited data access caused by poor storage management infrastructure and performance degradation caused by latency. If they try to harness remote cloud storage, they encounter huge performance challenges. Yet, if they turn to on-premises storage, they’re confronted by extraordinary costs, limited scalability and increased data center complexity. With ClearSky Data, Splunk customers and others get the full elasticity and economics of the cloud, and they can bypass latency issues to deliver an exceptional end-user experience. ClearSky makes scaling Splunk deployments simple and cost-effective while guaranteeing high performance rates.

Of course, this is just one instance of how enterprises realize the benefits of a managed service for primary storage. Company’s ecosystem partner, Digital Realty, has experience with and a front-row seat to the growth of interconnection and Internet colocation hubs used to power on-demand infrastructure services, particularly since its acquisition of NY-based interconnection and colocation provider Telx Computers, Inc..

Here’s what Digital Realty SVP, partners and alliances Bill Bradley had to say about our entry into his local market: “In the New York metro area, the combined Telx and Digital Realty footprint provides hundreds of enterprises with thousands of private network connections and room to grow their businesses. ClearSky Data is a highly innovative solution that incorporates a pay-as-you-go, fully managed delivery model, so it’s no surprise that IT teams in metro hubs across the country are eager to plug in.
