Hubbert Smith, Board’s Member, SNIA

The Storage Networking Industry Association announced that Hubbert Smith, director business development and strategy at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., has joined the board of directors.

 

 

 

He has authored three books on enterprise storage, holds four patents, and has 25 years of storage industry experience. His experience spans storage software, silicon, standards, devices and systems while at NCR, Intel, WD, and NetApp.

His current role includes business development and strategy for SATA, SAS, NVMe SSDs and other forms of memory.

He contributed to SATA industry standards and he drafted the original SATA use cases, specifically those which enabled SATA to be used in enterprise storage systems.

His accomplishments include a role in the creation of a new product category: capacity optimized enterprise disk drives (aka. RAID Edition). And now, roughly 2/3 of all enterprise drives are capacity optimized.

He contributed to multiple industry innovations including early NAS systems, server failover, storage replication and now enterprise and data center SSD and all-flash storage systems.

He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University.

Note also that Chelsio Communications, Inc. has just been added to the list of SNIA members.
