Qnap QIoT Suite Private IoT Cloud Platform for NAS

Supports development boards and starter kits including Arduino Yun, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Edison, and pushing telemetry data to third-party dashboards such as Microsoft Power BI for further data analysis.

Qnap Systems, Inc. released QIoT Suite, its private IoT cloud platform.

It provides software developers and makers with the ability to build robust IoT applications on their company’s NAS, providing a private, secure and on-premises environment. QIoT Suite Lite helps to complement public-cloud-based IoT solutions and provides an alternative for users who prefer to have a private IoT cloud solution.

Synonymous with our ‘Think Big, Go Big’ philosophy, QIoT Suite Lite is our official entry to the vast world of IoT,” said Amol Narkhede, product manager, Qnap, adding “Small and medium-sized businesses, individual developers and hobbyists can now build their own IoT projects with the hands-on, affordable, and private-cloud-based IoT solution that Qnap provides instead of relying on public cloud services.

QIoT Suite Lite comes with three components which form an IoT stack:

  • Device Gateway supports multiple protocols (including MQTT/MQTTS, HTTP/HTTPS and CoAP) for Things, to connect with QIoT Suite Lite. By using any of these supported protocols, Things can push telemetry data generated by various sensors or peripherals to the Device Gateway.

  • Rules engine (based on Node-RED) helps to process telemetry data and defines the logic of an IoT Application. With the help of a modern and intuitive user interface, this can be done with almost zero coding.

  • QIoT Dashboard provides widgets which helps to monitor and control the IoT Solution.

QIoT Suite Lite officially supports (but is not limited to) development boards and starter kits including Arduino Yun, Raspberry Pi, and Intel Edison. It also supports pushing telemetry data to third-party dashboards such as Microsoft Power BI for further data analysis.

QIoT Suite Lite can also address more advanced IoT use cases such as Fog Computing, in which multiple firm’s NAS work as Fog or Edge Nodes in a hierarchical manner addressing the scale and distribution of control required by Fog Computing.

While based on a private cloud infrastructure, QIoT Suite Lite provides the flexibility to benefit from both private and public clouds. Users can store all their IoT data on the low-cost private cloud of their NAS before exporting filtered/processed data to premium public clouds for further analytics and to maximize available cloud resources.
