Drobox Slashes Prices for Pro Offerings to Be On Par With Competitors

1TB plan for $9.99/month

In the ongoing cloud storage war opposing all of the major players in the industry, Dropbox had been late to update its pricing plans despite the major cuts operated by Google, Amazon, Microsoft and others.

But recently, the 300-million customers platform decided to go head to head with the other services by matching the current standard $9.99/month for 1TB offering. The company announced that its Pro plan (mostly dedicated for freelancer which don’t need an enterprise plan) will be streamlined with others competitive offerings and that it will get rid of the 100GB, 200GB and 500GB plans (priced at $9.99, $19.99 and $49.99 / month respectively).

Most of the cloud players offer now the same price with a different set of features.

And on that front Dropbox decided to bundle a few security and sharing announcements along with its price cut.

  • A view-only sharing permissions: This will allow people to share documents without granting the recipient permission to move, edit or delete anything. However the people its being shared with can make a local copy on their hard drives.
  • Password-protected links: Customer can now set password while sharing documents to add an extra layer of security to their process.
  • Expiration date for shared documents: Each link can now be set to be unattainable after a certain date or amount of time.
  • Remote wipe: You can now ban any of your linked devices from a central management console in case it is lost or stolen.

All of the former Pro pricing plans will be automatically switched to the new offering and the features will roll out during the next few days.
