Icy Dock Unveils 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch SAS HDD and SSD Converter
Fitted for notebook HDD from 5 to 15mm
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 8, 2014 at 2:46 pmSAS interface has been used for server applications and is considered an enterprise solution in the storage industry.
The enterprise 2.5″ SSD/HDD represents a growing segment because of its faster IO/s, low power consumption and better shockproof rating. The EZConvert Air MB382IP-3B from Icy Dock provides a method for server upgrades; it converts any 2.5″ SAS HDD/SSDs into 3.5″ SAS HDDs, while maintaining the exact 3.5″ SAS HDD specifications and it support SAS dual channel function.
It features a stainless-steel exterior with a locking mechanism to keep your drives immobile. The open air design, ventilated slots, and metal construction all work simultaneously to maintain your drives as cool as possible.
Enterprise design
It puts an emphasis on industrial level SAS storage applications – designed using the dimensions, connection locations, and mounting positions making it a replica of a 3.5″ SAS drive. This converter is intended to be used for 2.5″ SAS drives that are required in 3.5″ SAS internal HDD bays of tower and rack mount chassis, as well as with SAS backplanes or hot swap modules. It is backwards compatible with SATA HDD/SSDs and supports SAS dual channel daisy-chain function which is for iSCSI SAN server and data center applications.
It utilizes a stainless steel exterior combined with an open air design, creating an environment to cool any 10K, 15K RPM 2.5″ SAS mechanical or enterprise 2.5″ SAS SSD. It’s invaluable for enterprise because it simplifies upgrading file servers without paying a tremendous amount for an entire system upgrade. Additionally, the construction is made for industrial and enterprise applications where equipment robustness is a necessity.
For maximum compatibility, is included self-adjusting mechanism to support of all drive heights ranging from 7mm to 15mm. With the optional bottom screw holes, you can lock in 2.5″ drives, allowing extra drive security. The added security feature is made for rugged system builds that require drives to be immobile yet accessible.
Convenience meets practicality
It’s easy to install 2.5″ HDD/SSD. Press on the latch to open the locking mechanism, insert the SSD or HDD into the SAS/SATA connector, and close the latch and you’re ready to go. It does not require any tools for SSD or drive installation, decreasing installation time and labor of maintenance. The open design of this converter gives access to drives when the situation arises. If you need to swap drives, you can do so with ease.
For customers that swap their drives a lot, the built in SAS/SATA PCB bridge protects your HDD/SSD connector from wearing out during the insertion and removal cycle, and it delivers the speed of SAS up to 6Gb/s per channel without any speed reduction.
Cooling design
There’s a reason we coined the name EZConvert Air because of how much airflow this converter allows. With its open air design, heat can escape from your drives during your most intensive applications. This in turn can lead to better performance since excessive heat may slow down your system. Ventilated slots surround the converter allowing heat to escape from all sides and angles, while the metal frame acts as a giant heat sink to cool your HDDs. The open air design, ventilated slots, and metal frame combine to produce an advanced cooling system to put your mind at ease.
