Bitcasa CloudFS Platform for Developers and Service Providers
Availability late Spring/Summer
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 8, 2014 at 2:47 pmBitcasa, Inc. announced its CloudFS Platform, a service for application developers to leverage its cloud storage technology.
The platform enhances public cloud storage by enabling developers to innovate while focusing on building their applications.
With API functionality such as file management, file sharing, media transcoding, and zero-knowledge encryption, the platform accelerates custom application development on public cloud storage. Additionally, with 9 pre-built apps, the Bitcasa drive allows service providers to offer their own branded, consumer storage solution without costly upfront development.
“We’ve developed a robust, battle-tested cloud storage technology,” says Bitcasa CEO, Brian Taptich. “And we’ve learned that creating a cloud storage service is very hard. Our highly secure, scalable and regionalized platform means developers no longer need to face the pain of writing that code – they can quickly deploy their custom cloud apps with our platform.“
IDC is predicting that the digital universe is doubling in size every two years and will multiply 10-fold between 2013 and 2020 – from 4.4 trillion gigabytes to 44 trillion gigabytes. With Bitcasa developers can address the capacity challenge to deliver scalable cloud storage and file management, as well as a branded cloud storage service. The service also upholds the company’s commitment to data privacy and security, with client-side encryption.
In contrast to a number of other cloud storage services, developers can use the cloud platform without surrendering their application data or the data of their users.
“The Network File System removed location limitations for accessing files within corporate firewalls, Bitcasa removes limitations further by enabling highly scalable, secure, and fast file access in the public cloud,” said Ashish Nadkarni, file and object storage analyst, IDC. “The scale of the file system in Bitcasa’s consumer cloud storage service is unprecedented, and provides a solid base for developers to build on.“
Bitcasa CloudFS Platform
The CloudFS platform provides a way to leverage the public cloud.
With APIs developers can:
-
Create structured file systems in the cloud
-
Implement privacy and security controls
-
Optimize performance and network bandwidth through caching that analyzes use patterns for efficient storage
-
Provide rich media services with streaming and transcoding
A drive will provide organizations, such as device manufacturers and telecom carriers, the ability to create their own branded cloud services for their customers, and benefit from:
-
No upfront investment in upfront infrastructure or need to build directly on Amazon Web Services
-
Creating a better customer experience by giving their customers more capacity, access to files and data across all devices
-
Via branded desktop, Web, mobile and TV apps, and sharing functionality and HD streaming abilities.
Additionally, the company provides direct access to regionalized cloud storage options across multiple public cloud providers, without writing any custom code.
With this solution developers can:
-
Customize to meet specific geographic needs with regional storage and local currency
-
Get visibility into performance with detailed reporting and analytics
-
Migrate without any headache
-
Access other value-add services
The platform builds on the company’s consumer cloud storage service that’s been engineered to provide scalable architecture that supports client-side encryption applications, and connects millions of devices. It has experienced more than 99.999% uptime since launching its consumer service in 2011.
Availability for the Bitcasa Platform will be late Spring/Summer.
