CloudByte Rolls Out Software Upgrade to ElastiStor
With visibility into storage metrics, and compatibility with OpenStack Grizzly
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 13, 2014 at 2:50 pmCloudByte Inc. announced a release of its storage software ElastiStor 1.3.
The software provides end-user visibility into storage metrics and the ability to view the real-time status of the environment. It integrates with virtualization vendors and cloud stack environments and expands certification of more hardware platforms.
“Without metrics that matter providing visibility insight into your storage environment usage and activity, you are flying blind,” said Greg Schulz, founder and senior advisor, StorageIO. “By providing visibility and situational awareness, CloudByte helps their customers safely navigate and leverage their storage infrastructure in different conditions to avoid becoming a cloud performance, availability or economic barrier.“
Detailed storage reports and metrics that improve end-user visibility can be accessed from the ElastiCenter console or from a mobile device, similar to the functionality of Amazon cloud Watch. Another feature is the standardization of a performance measure – IO/s – across hardware platforms for improved billing consistency.
Integration enhancements include a new REST API set that can be used by service providers to provide VM-level IO/s provisioning and management from VMware vCenter. VM snapshots and clones can also be driven from vCenter. A plug-in provides application-consistent snapshots for SQL Server environments.
Environment support for this release includes:
-
OpenStack Cinder plug-in support for the OpenStack Grizzly release
-
A CloudByte IO/s management plug-in for the CloudStack 4.3 release
-
VMware block and file certifications
-
CloudByte-certified hardware platforms: Dell PowerEdge Rx20 server series; HP ProLiant DL Rack Servers, Generation 8; and DataON Cluster-in-a-Box series
By leveraging the capabilities of this release, service providers can address customer needs and expand their footprint within existing customer environments. Further, by providing customer visibility into the resources needed to handle workloads, this release will enable service providers to increase overall topline revenues.
“This release is in direct response to our service provider customers’ requests for functionality that directly allows them to increase market share,” said Felix Xavier, CloudByte CTO and founder. “Better end-user visibility, better integration, and broader environment support increase our customers’ ability to capture new enterprises and share of wallet of existing enterprises.“
For customers, the release is available from the CloudByte support website. A version that includes a free perpetual license for four terabytes of storage capacity can be downloaded from the free trial page.
