Perforce Integrates Commons Document Collaboration Platform With Dropbox
Free for up to 20 users
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 22, 2014 at 3:11 pmPerforce Software, Inc. integrated its document collaboration platform, Perforce Commons, with Dropbox, the file-sharing tool.
Customers using Commons to store and manage the versions of their documents can upload files into Dropbox, which syncs content across all the devices associated with a customer account. Combining the two technologies allows users to share files via Dropbox while utilising Commons’ collaboration and version control capabilities.
Commons extends Perforce enterprise version management to less technical staff, who can manage their documents and other files in the same shared repository that the developers use for code and artists use for graphics. Commons enables organisations to maintain a single source of truth for all their assets, a requirement for the emerging software development methodology of continuous delivery.
“We’ve tried lots of document management solutions but found that they’re mostly social media and communication platforms with document collaboration tacked on as an afterthought. That’s not good enough for us,” said Ryan Kelly, project manager, Photizo Group, Inc. “We want a collaboration platform where communication and workflow are focused on the document itself. Nothing we tried was working for us until we found Commons.“
All products are free for up to 20 users-including access to the technical support. Commons is available as both an on premise solution and a cloud service. It takes minutes to set up a cloud team.
“It’s becoming rare for document reviews and revisions to take place exclusively at desktops connected to a server. Thanks to advanced file-sharing tools like Dropbox, users propagate their evolving documents to any number of devices and share them with their peers,” said Christopher Seiwald, founder and CEO, Perforce. “That’s why our integration with Dropbox is so helpful. Now our customers can easily share files across their devices while still reaping in the benefits of our enterprise version management.“
