Apricorn Partners With Squadra Technologies
To add security to Aegis USB HDDs, single license at $25
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 11, 2013 at 2:57 pmApricorn Inc. announced its partnership with Squadra Technologies to provide security software to its Aegis Secure USB Drives.
Squadra’s Secure Removable Media Manager (SecRMM) is a companion to the Aegis family and prevents sensitive data from being copied to removable media by unauthorized personnel, creating centralized control for administrators that enhance the endpoint security created by the secure drives.
“Apricorn’s Aegis Secure Drives have long been known in the data security arena as powerful endpoint security devices. Their 256-bit AES-XTS hardware encryption and embedded keypad or biometric authentication have received FIPS 140-2 Validation and have been employed in many DLP strategies,” said Mike McCandless, VP sales and marketing, Apricorn. “Combining Squadra’s Secure Removable Media Manager into our secure drive product offering simply extends that security. Administrators now have the ability to control how their data is accessed, not only with our drives but across all of their mobile devices.”
Implementing the SecRMM console with drives enables organizations to white list devices, track when a file is transferred to a drive or any other removable device, correlate that event to an individual device user, and if necessary take measures to protect corporate data while producing an auditable activity report. It also has the ability to restrict the copying of specific files and folders with pinpoint accuracy. Using pre-defined criteria, including User IDs and serial numbers, an IT department is able to enhance and enforce their DLP strategy.
Developed to address requirements from the US government and military, the management console offers security features:
- Detailed forensic data and device tracking for USB devices, smartphones, tablets, external drives, SD cards, CD/DVDs and all removable media
- Activity reports and audit logs
- Black lsting and white listing of devices – Provides a removable media authorization layer to prevent unauthorized devices from mounting to the network or host
- Pinpoint control of files or folders the end-user can copy, customizable using several criteria including User ID, removable media serial number, internal ID (VID or PID) or the program used to perform the write operation
- Ability to create an enforceable two man policy for sensitive data where at least 2 people must be involved for the removable media write operation to occur – such as authorized personnel and an administrator
- Integration with any hardware / software encryption technology
- Integrated with Microsoft’s Active Directory making removable media security policies easy to maintain and deploy
- 100% scriptable
“The partnership between Apricorn and Squadra Technologies gives IT and security administrators a perfect combination to deploy removable media while managing exposure of sensitive data,” said Barbara LaMark, CEO, Squadra Technologies.
