Ceph Enterprise From Inktank
Object and block storage cluster based on Ceph open-source product
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 7, 2013 at 2:10 pmInktank Storage Inc. announced Ceph Enterprise.
Building on Ceph’s open-source heritage, it is a subscription offering that combines the stable version of Ceph for object and block storage with a graphical manager and a suite of support services.
Whether used in a green-field cloud deployment or as a replacement for traditional storage solutions, it allows organizations to manage their growing data. By offering a web-scale storage technology with tools and long-term support from a commercial vendor, businesses can benefit from improvements in the economics of storage.
Delivered in a single package, it’s bringing one of the storage technologies to the enterprise market for the first time.
It offers everything necessary to run a production Ceph storage cluster at scale, including:
- Open Source Ceph (v0.67) – unified, scale-out object and block storage with features like copy-on-write, snapshots, multi-site operation and S3 and Swift API compatibility.
- ‘Calamari‘ Graphical Manager – an on-premise application with management tools and performance data that simplifies operational management and enables administrators to adapt to changes in their Ceph clusters.
- Support Services – a set of SLA-backed services from the company, including technical support, hot fixes, bug prioritization and roadmap input.
“Inktank Ceph Enterprise is an important development that should help enterprise customers evolve their Ceph deployments, be they public, private or hybrid cloud environments,” said Simon Robinson, Research VP, 451 Research. “Having the backing of Ceph experts behind their Ceph deployments should help customers as they look to improve BC service levels, drive greater agility and improve operational efficiency across their cloud estate.”
It helps organizations become more:
- Cost efficient – Organizations can realize cost savings over legacy systems by using commodity hardware and reduce operational costs by consolidating storage infrastructure and using modern management tools.
- Cloud-Ready – It’s integrated with OpenStack, Apache CloudStack, and common hypervisors.
- Future-proofed – Because it’s not priced based on use case or hardware configuration, enterprises can start with block storage and grow into object storage or vice versa.
- Supported – Ceph’s core developers, expert practitioners in scale-out storage deployment, provide long term support and ensure issue triage.
The solution is supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, CentOS 6.3, CentOS 6.4, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and is priced based on the amount of storage deployed.
“The launch of Inktank Ceph Enterprise makes Ceph a viable, sustainable storage platform within the enterprise” said Bryan Bogensberger, CEO, Inktank. “Inktank customers now have the tools, code and peace of mind required to get serious about replacing expensive, proprietary legacy storage hardware and satisfying their emerging cloud and big storage needs with the transformative Ceph distributed storage system.“
