Syncsort Updates DPX to Support NetApp Platform
And supporting Exchange and Sharepoint
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 27, 2013 at 3:05 pmSyncsort Inc. announced enhancements to its DPX software to make backup and DR simpler and more efficient across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
The release expands BMR and virtualization capabilities and extends OS, application and NetApp, Inc.‘s platform support that combines with ONTAP-based disk storage to create a complete data protection and DR solution for any storage environment.
“Before we implemented the DPX solution, we were having tremendous difficulty meeting backup and recovery windows, as well as handling backup management – our backup windows were pushing 24 hours,” said Lelia Howard, director of technology, Bryn Athyn College. “After implementing DPX, we not only reduced backup times by 90%, but consolidated backup processing and gained much faster restores. It’s great to see Syncsort continually add new capabilities to ensure faster backup continues to be a daily reality.”
Highlights include:
- Multiple enhancements to Windows BMR that save time and money by making the BMR recovery process simpler and providing more flexible recovery options for users.
- Virtualization enhancements that increase flexibility when recovering virtual server backups to VMware, increase efficiency using thin provisioning to allocate disk space for VMs and bolstering ease of use by eliminating the need for post-recovery configuration changes.
- Extended application support capabilities for high speed backups and near instant recovery to Exchange 2013 and SharePoint 2013 and file-level data protection for Lotus Notes on DB2 v10.1 and SAP running on Oracle in AIX, Windows and Linux.
- DPX support for NetApp vFiler – increasing efficiency and flexibility in creating virtual landing zones for DPX backups, which is a useful feature for service providers.
- DPX also includes Syncsort’s copy data management capabilities that use DPX instant access virtual volume mapping functionality to reduce the amount of duplicate data organizations need to maintain.
“Faced with massive data growth and increased use of virtualization, organizations are struggling with outdated, costly data protection technologies that no longer work as needed,” said Peter Eicher, senior product specialist, data protection business, Syncsort. “We continue to build out and innovate new capabilities to keep our customers ahead of the curve with a modernized, easy to grow data protection architecture that leverages the functionality of multi-purpose disk hardware. The result is a solution that eliminates backup window challenges, restores data and applications in minutes, while unifying backup and DR at the lowest TCO.”
“Many IT organizations use multiple products for their backup and recovery, making multiple copies of data and systems to different locations with different SLAs and capabilities depending on the source. This is complicated, time consuming, inefficient and now out of date,” said Jason Reid, founder and MD, AssureStor Limited, provider of backup and DR services. “By using a platform based on the Syncsort DPX technology, we deliver a complete backup and recovery model. The new features in DPX demonstrate that Syncsort continues to ensure that our solution delivers a complete service capable of 360 degree recovery.“
