Winchester Systems: Hybrid Array FlashDisk RH Series

Winchester Systems Inc. announced its FlashDisk RH Series that delivers ‘all flash performance’ in a hybrid disk array.

This 14th generation FlashDisk features dual RAID controllers that represent a new level of performance combined with the use of SSDs to increase speed. This combination enables the performance that tC4ISR applications demand at COTS prices.

FlashDisk RH controllers deploy up to 256GB on-board cache, an eight-fold increase in cache capacity. As a hybrid array, a small number of SSDs can be assigned to serve as read cache and dedicated SSD volumes for write intensive applications, resulting in a unit that delivers all flash performance at close to standard disk array prices.

The FlashDisk HX delivers 12GB/s data throughput for radar, data acquisition, photos, video recording and playback, a 250% increase in speed for C4ISR applications. The FlashDisk RH delivers up to 500,000 IO/s for random access applications – 100 times faster than HDD arrays. Recording multiple sequential data streams often creates high rates of random access when the data streams interleave, so random performance is very useful for demanding C4ISR applications.

The rugged 2U base unit holds up to 24×2.5″ HDDs, SSDs and SEDs with capacities ranging from 200GB to 4TB each to provide 4.8TB to 96TB. It offers single or dual controllers and up to 20 ports including FC 8Gb, FC 16Gb, 1GbE and 10GbE.

“This hybrid disk array enables C4ISR deployments to deliver the high flash performance while keeping costs in check — an important goal with today’s constrained military budgets,” explained Inese Lanka, the company’s senior director of federal sales.

Prices for rugged FlashDisk RH start at under $24,000. Products are available and delivery is 2-3 weeks.
