VCE To Expand Vblock

With EMC Isilon And XtremIO

Formed by Cisco and EMC with investments from VMware and Intel, VCE LLC, in converged infrastructure systems, will offer Vblock Systems with EMC Isilon for scale-out VDI and Hadoop analytics through new technology extensions for Isilon and XtremIO.

VCE will fully integrate and support Isilon and XtremIO as options for new and existing Vblock Systems, bringing the VCE Experience to customers deploying scale-out VDI and enterprise data lakes.

Vblock Systems are the pre-integrated, pre-tested and pre-validated converged infrastructures for cloud environments, enabling transformative data center agility, simplicity and economics to enterprises and service providers worldwide. The VCE Experience includes Vblock Systems that are delivered and supported by VCE as a single product, with component-level updates, lifecycle management and end-to-end vendor accountability.

VCE will now extend these benefits to Isilon EMC XtremIO, expanding the pre-integrated, pre-tested and pre-validated Vblock portfolio with support from VCE to address two emerging industry trends:

  • Enterprise scale-out VDI: Vblock Systems technology extensions bring the VCE Experience to Isilon by integrating and supporting it with Vblock Systems for Extreme Applications, which is designed for desktop virtualization and features XtremIO. This will deliver scale-out storage capabilities for desktop images (flash) and user and profile data (NAS), enabling secure VDI environments that are faster, easier to deploy and manage, and more cost-effective. Vblock Specialized Systems for Extreme Applications have gained strong customer traction and deliver an user experience for massive-scale VDI deployments. VCE will also offer XtremIO all-flash arrays as add-ons for existing Vblock System deployments.
  • Enterprise scale-out data lakes: Vblock Systems technology extensions also bring the VCE Experience to Isilon for big data environments. These extensions deliver native Hadoop (HDFS) integration, with the ability to support multiple Hadoop distributions and versions. The flexible architecture of Isilon enables other enterprise applications to use Hadoop data while eliminating the need to manually move data around or invest in a separate, stand-alone infrastructure such as DAS.

VCE leads the industry in helping customers transform their data centers for the cloud through Vblock Systems and the VCE Experience,” said Todd Pavone, EVP, product strategy and development, VCE. “We are now extending this experience to next-generation VDI and enterprise data lakes to accelerate and simplify customer adoption of these game-changing technologies.”

VCE Vblock Systems technology extension for Isilon is expected to be orderable in Q3 2014. Vblock Systems technology extension for XtremIO is expected to be orderable in Q4 2014.
