OpenStack Swift is an object-storage system, providing users to store and sync data with their desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

Having celebrated the 5th birthday of OpenStack, it is exciting to see the continued expansion of support for Swift among storage system vendors,” said John Dickinson, project technical lead, OpenStack Swift. “Swift has long been a repository for Glance images and a target for backup data. Now with the efforts of Synology, SMB and MSP organizations can now easily use Swift to store system backups locally and offsite.

Synology knows the same solution isn’t right for everyone, so we’re actively adding new services to cloud Sync, in this case OpenStack Swift, allowing our business users to sync files easily, securely, and to backup to the storage provider of their choice,” said Nicole Lin, product manager, Synology.

Company’s Cloud Sync lets users easily synchronize files on their NAS with a variety of cloud storage services around the world, such as Amazon Cloud Drive, Amazon S3-compatible storage, Baiduyun, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google cloud Storage, hubiC, Megafon Disk, Microsoft OneDrive, OpenStack Swift, WebDAV servers, and Yandex Disk. With advanced settings, such as one- or two-way sync, selective sync, and encryption, users can synchronize files securely and just the way they want.

Cloud Sync is available in company’s Package Center and may be installed on all Synology NAS models running DSM 5.0 and later.
