Qnap Cinder Driver Supporting OpenStack Ocata

Providing block storage and snapshots

QNAP Systems, Inc. announced that its Cinder Driver has been verified by OpenStack to support the upcoming ‘Ocata‘ version.

QNAP_OpenStack-Ocata_PR592_enBusinesses can configure company’s NAS as block storage supporting their OpenStack environment to build a cost-effective hybrid cloud solution.

The support for the OpenStack Cinder Driver enables QNAP’s enterprise-grade NAS to be an integral part of OpenStack ecosystems, providing businesses with a flexible, easy-to-use, and low-cost storage solution,” said Waterball Liu, manager, product, Qnap.

With the Cinder Driver users can implement NAS for OpenStack to attain highly-available and secure storage for on-site data, as well as to protect VM data by using snapshots for data recovery whenever needed.

The company recommends performance enterprise NAS models for providing OpenStack storage. This range includes the enterprise ZFS NAS that features dual active-active controllers and the QES OS that supports HA, near-limitless snapshots, data deduplication, and compression.

Other recommended NAS include the TES-1885U and TES-3085U. Powered by Xeon D processors, they are capable of running either the QTS or QES OS on a single rackmount NAS and acting as a backup NAS for Enterprise ZFS NAS.

OpenStack Ocata has a projected release date of February 22, 2017.
