New SAS Drive Options for IBM SVC and Storwize

IBM SAN Volume Controller and Storwize Family deliver new drive options for increased capacity.

The IBM Storwize family of products delivers higher capacity disk drive and flash drive options to increase system capacity for select SAN Volume Controller and Storwize models.

Following disk and flash drives are now available
on Storwize V3700, Storwize V5000, and Storwize V7000:

• 2TB 7,200rpm 12GB SAS NL 2.5-inch HDD
• 8TB 7,200rpm 12GB SAS NL 3.5-inch HDD
• 1.6TB 12GB SAS 2.5-inch flash drive

These drives are dual-port and hot-swappable, and support data transfer rates of up to 12GB/s when installed in Storwize V7000 Models 524, 12F, 24F and SVC Model 24F. They support data transfer rates of up to 6GB/s when installed in all other Storwize models.

New SAS cable features in one or three meters are available on IBM System Storage EXP2500 Express Storage enclosures. These cables are offered under new feature numbers for supply continuity purposes and replace feature numbers 3707 and 3708.

Following drives require IBM Storwize Family Software version 7.4, or later,
or Storwize licensed machine code level 7.4, or later:

• 2TB 7,200rpm 12GB SAS NL 2.5-inch HDD
• 8TB 7,200rpm 12GB SAS NL 3.5-inch HDD
• The 1.6TB 12GB SAS 2.5-inch flash

Drive requires IBM Storwize Family Software version 6.4, or later, or Storwize licensed machine code level 6.4, or later.

Planned availability date: June 5, 2015, all features, except as noted below:

• May 15, 2015: Solution Option 002 24 Pack (feature number 9272), OEM Bulk Option features (feature numbers ACXx, except feature numbers ACX3 and ACX8)
• June 12, 2015: SAS Cable features (feature numbers ACRx)
• June 19, 2015: PurePOWER cable and indicators (feature numbers ACUE and EHKx)
