This integrated solution is the first step in taking HCI from beyond targeted use cases such as VDI, backup and DR and ROBO, and into the spectrum of data center applications that IT organizations need to deliver.

This is company’s product offering that leverages the technology gained from the company’s February 2016 acquisition of PCIe flash array and QoS NexGen Storage, Inc. This offering combines firm’s HCI appliances, including its patented erasure coding and distributed architecture, with a multi-tier flash array governed by a QoS engine. The entire system is managed using a VMware vCenter Server plug-in to provide integrated management of HCI and the flash array tier from one console, including the ability to provision storage services at a VM level. The result is a single solution that scales performance to meet data center needs, delivers up to 94% resource efficiency, provides HA with sustained performance, and guarantees application performance based on simple policy-based management.

The solution can be deployed in environments in which there is a diverse set of mixed application workloads or users that need guaranteed performance. It also provides a new dimension of scalability over traditional hyperconverged solutions that lead to over-provisioning for either storage capacity or performance.

Although hyperconvergence brings a wide range of benefits in targeted use cases, vendors have been unable to deliver a solution that enables IT to confidently consolidate all aspects of the data center, and still scale to the enterprise-grade needs of the data center,” said Ron Nash, CEO, Pivot3. “With this new product, we are moving towards that goal; businesses can experience the simplicity and economics of hyperconvergence, while at the same time achieving the guaranteed performance on the PCIe flash storage tier with advanced QoS. We plan to continue developing solutions that further integrate the technology sets from Pivot3 and from the NexGen Storage acquisition.

We started out using Pivot3’s hyperconverged platform for capturing enormous volumes of surveillance video. Because of Pivot3’s excellent performance, we are now expanding our involvement with them by adding virtual desktops that include integrated management of HCI and PCIe flash storage,” said Philip Lisk, director, information technology, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. “The new combined solution is exactly what we are looking for, and is another step in our journey with Pivot3 to reduce silos in data within our infrastructure. With the new solution, we hope to reduce overall data center costs while ensuring that performance and availability expectations will be met.

While the HCI market has been growing rapidly for years, HCI is only just beginning to penetrate the enterprise data center,” said Kevin M. Permenter, senior research analyst, IDC. “More and more, HCI vendors are being asked to provide technology that enables enterprises to deploy more applications and workloads on the HCI infrastructure while ensuring performance. Equipped with this capability, Pivot3’s latest solution is well-positioned to be a provocative offering for today’s modern data center.
