Imation Enhances Nexsan E-Series Storage Systems

Imation Corp. has introduced a set of features for its Nexsan E-Series family.

With data growing at an exponential rate, storage solutions continue to use the largest capacity drives available. No matter how the data is used, a couple of things stay constant: the data must be easy to manage and must be protected from events that could cause application outages.

Taking these requirements into account,
Imation has added following enhancements to E-Series:

• Advanced Rebuild

  • Data-only rebuild – Rebuilds only the written user data to reduce rebuild times.

  • Parallel rebuild – Rebuilds multiple disk failures simultaneously.

  • Suspect disk retirement – Proactively retires symptomatic disks before they compromise the array.

• SSD health monitoring – Reporting mechanisms show the amount of writes remaining on SSDs, providing the ability to proactively replace SSDs before they fail due to over-usage.

• Volume Migration – Volumes can be moved from one storage array to another without interruption to host access.

SSD Health Monitoring shows users how many writes are left on SSDs, providing the ability to replace them before they wear out and fail. And with Volume Migration, E-Series offers the flexibility to move volumes seamlessly, which can enable things like adapting to a change in performance, accommodating faster-than-expected growth and changing RAID protection levels.“
