IBM DeepFlash Elastic Storage Server V5.0 and DeepFlash 150

256TB or 512TB of flash storage

IBM DeepFlash Elastic Storage Server V5.0 and IBM DeepFlash 150 for Power enable big storage with high density and performance with a lower cost per terabyte

DeepFlash Elastic Storage Server V5.0 is a new storage offering in the Elastic Storage Server (ESS) family. Built from the ESS DeepFlash Storage drawers and Power ESS data servers, it enables big storage to expand scale-out deployments with high density and performance with a lower cost per terabyte.

It supports 256TB or 512TB configurations that utilize one or two flash storage drawers deployed with Spectrum Scale for DeepFlash Elastic Storage Server.

DeepFlash Elastic Storage Server V5.0 ships with two ESS data servers preloaded with Spectrum Scale for DeepFlash ESS. One or two ESS DeepFlash storage drawers can be configured to ship with or without a rack. Each order can be further customized to meet support requirements.

Stand-alone DeepFlash 150 drawer
A stand-alone DeepFlash 150 drawer can be directly attached to the IBM Power S822L server. The direct attachment of a DeepFlash 150 drawer to Power S822L servers utilizes a 12Gb SAS interface for greater throughput. Up to two SAS adapters can be configured on a single S822L server for attaching the DeepFlash 150 storage. A maximum of one DeepFlash 150 drawer can be attached using a 12Gb SAS adapter, giving up to 0.5PB of flash storage capacity.

IBM Data Engine for NoSQL
Data Engine for NoSQL is an integrated platform for large and fast-growing NoSQL data stores. It delivers high-speed access to both RAM and flash storage, which can result in lower cost and higher workload density than a standard RAM-based system. It will support RHEL 7.3 on 8247-21L and 8247-22L servers.

Key prerequisites

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 for Power (le), or later
  • Spectrum Scale for DeepFlash ESS V4.2.2, or later

Planned availability date: December 16, 2016, except for:

  • IBM Data Engine for NoSQL (#EJ1K) solution supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 for Power on Power System S812L and S822L servers, which will be on December 2, 2016
  • NVMe Flash Accelerator adapter with CAPI activations, which will be on November 14, 2016
  • DDR4 memory features for Power Systems 8247 and 8284 machine types, which will be on November 18, 2016
