Avere Adding Entry-Level Model FXT 5200 Edge Filer

Avere Systems, Inc. introduced the FXT 5200 Edge Filer to its 5000 series product line.

The FXT 5200 is an entry-level solution that cost-effectively delivers the same software functionality support as the existing 5000 series to customers running lower performance workloads. Providing 50% more storage capacity in half the space of the preceding model, this 1U rack-mount filer delivers lower TCO and a smaller data center footprint, making it possible for more businesses to make the move to the cloud with ease.

This latest innovation from the company rounds out the FXT 5000 Edge Filer series, which includes the 5400 and 5600 models announced earlier this year, and provides customers across industries like media and entertainment, financial services and life sciences with a powerful hybrid cloud storage product.

Key features of FXT 5200 Edge Filer include:

• Increased capacity and higher density. The FXT 5200 model includes 7.2TB SAS HDD per node, delivering 50% more capacity than the existing 3200 model, and occupies half the space–only one rack unit per node – addressing the growing pain point of datacenter sprawl and lowering TCO.

• File system for public and private object storage. This model creates a cloud storage gateway, providing NAS functionality in front of object storage and allowing users to access data using standard protocols.

• WAN caching for remote offices. The FXT 5200 enables improved remote office collaboration by offering WAN caching to create centralized data access to users in satellite offices.
