Availability of Seagate ClusterStor 9000 for HPC

And US government certification for ClusterStor secure data appliance

Coinciding with the introduction of Cloud Systems and Solutions strategy, Seagate Technology LLC is announcing the availability of the ClusterStor 9000 solution, an integrated Lustre-based scale-out solution designed for HPC and big data customers who need to manage the massive growth in digital data and deliver on next generation workloads.

Also being announced is the achievement of US government certification validating the ClusterStor Secure Data Appliance (SDA) ability to satisfy Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 503h policies and related (DCID 6/3 PL4) cross-domain solution requirements. ClusterStor SDA supports security capabilities to safeguard against internal and external threats throughout the data lifecycle.

The availability of ClusterStor 9000 along with the SDA certifications are a promise kept to customers. ClusterStor 9000 addresses the needs of virtually every organization requiring cost effective HPC scale, and the SDA’s certification is something we at Seagate are very proud of,” said Ken Claffey, VP and GM, ClusterStor, Seagate. “In both offerings Seagate announces industry first achievements. ClusterStor SDA delivers all the necessary tools and support to collaboratively share sensitive information, while strictly complying with security data protection standards. The ultra-efficiency of ClusterStor 9000, through a unique combination of optimization features, out-paces all parallel file system storage offerings.”

Seagate ClusterStor SDA – US Government Certification
The ClusterStor Secure Data Appliance (SDA) provides a multi-level security solution that has been missing from any vendor’s storage offerings. The need for scalable storage, that supports multiple security levels, all in one solution has been the missing piece that allows SELinux to be used to solve problems at large scale,” said Henry Newman, CEO and CTO, Instrumental, Inc.Using the Lustre file system allows this ICD 503 compliant storage system to reduce the operation and maintenance costs for large and high performance storage in secure environments.”

ClusterStor 9000 – Availability and Early Momentum
Along with the availability of the ClusterStor 9000, Seagate CSS is announcing that Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum GmbH (DRKZ), the national climate computing center located in Hamburg, Germany, has chosen the ClusterStor 9000 to deliver 45PB of Lustre based scale-out storage to support computationally climate simulation and modeling. Once installed, the DKRZ facility is slated to house one of the largest Lustre file systems in the world.

Climate simulation generates massive amounts of digital data that needs to be processed quickly and efficiently,” said Professor Thomas Ludwig, DKRZ director and research team leader. “The ClusterStor solution provided the best performance density and, therefore, was the most efficient high-performance storage offering for our environment.”

Through its systems group (formerly Xyratex), Seagate Cloud Systems and Solutions has shipped over 17,000PB and nearly two million enclosures for major OEMs.

ClusterStor 9000 is  available worldwide.
