SSD: One Start-Up Closed Doors, New One Appears

Proton Digital Systems died, NxGn Data born

Start-up Proton Digital Systems, Inc., involved in flash read channel, has closed doors according to a former member of the company.

Headed by CEO Andrei Vityaev, Proton, born in 2011 and based in San Jose, CA, was delivering flash reliability solutions based on proprietary ECC and Statistical Digital Signal Processing (S-DSP) technologies. Its ProFlash Memory Managers extend the endurance and retention of NAND flash and other block-based memories compared to currently available solutions, enabling next-generation solutions to use 1x/1y/1z nm, 3D technologies with improved reliability.

The company received $2 million in financial funding in 2013.

And a new start-up, also in SSD, is born this year: NxGn Data, Inc., located in Irvine, CA, and in stealth mode.

There is no information on its web site and we just know that the firm is involved in SSDs based on its own controller.

Founder and CEO is Nader Salessi, formerly VP SSD business unit at WD after working as VP for STEC – acquired last year by WD – during 6 years. James File, formerly at Proton Digital Systems, is VP business development of the new firm.
