TLC-Based 2.5-Inch 6Gb SATA SSD Planned by Plextor

With Toshiba chip and Marvell controller, 128GB to 512GB

Plextor Europe announces plans for a TLC-based SSD solution at CeBIT 2013.

Next to this Plextor will be demonstrating the building blocks of Plextor’s balanced SSD products in its showcase in the Business Center and by joining other exhibitors demonstrating their solutions.

This announcement comes on the heels of the CES Show in Las Vegas, NE of last month where Plextor announced several new SSD solutions for 2013:

  • M5M mSATA 6Gb/s SSD SSD
  • M.2 (NGFF) SSD
  • Enterprise SSD Solutions

At the upcoming CeBIT show, Plextor adds a new 2.5" TLC based SSD to this line up. Combined with Plextor’s own firmware, the TLC solution will feature sustained random read / write speeds up to 80,000 / 72,000 IOPS as well as continuous read / write speeds up to 540 / 465 Mb/s. The drive will use the latest 3rd generation Marvell 88SS9187 controller and TLC NAND flash from Toshiba. The new TLC solution will also feature Plextor’s TrueSpeed Technology to prevent performance drop after intense or long-term usage. The TLC solution is expected to launch in the second half of 2013 in capacities: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. More details on features, availability, and pricing will be announced at a later stage.

This year’s edition of CeBIT will also mark the start of a new European communication theme: "Driven by Perfect Balance", emphasizing the balance of Plextor’s SSD solutions between performance and reliability.

For this reason Plextor will be joining forces
with other exhibitors this year:

  • ASrock Overclocking Show: ASrock will organize a daily Overclocking event at their booth featuring World’s top Overclockers. Plextor M5 Pro Xtreme drives will be used in various attempts to set new Overclocking records.
  • Silverstone NUC Solutions: Silverstone showcases its new range of NUC barebones and has chosen Plextor M5M mSATA SSD solution for its superior performance to demonstrate the capabilities of Intel’s new platform.
  • Promise Pegasus J4 Thunderbolt Storage solution: Promise Technology is demonstrating a prototype of Pegasus J4 semi-professional Thunderbolt storage solution equipping 4x M5 Pro Xtreme SSDs at their booth. Promise recently qualified Plextor to deliver SSDs for their Pegasus J2 solution proving that Plextor SSDs are well fitted to work with Mac based solutions.
