SAN Sentinel SRM Adds VMs

To storage analysis

SAN Sentinel SAS, publisher of SRM software Sentinel Navigator in cloud/SaaS mode and independent from storage manufacturers, announces the availability of Virtual Sentinel which allows to recover information from VMs agent-free, thanks to the vCenter Server API integrated in its universal collector.

As part of its strategy to simplify SRM tools, SAN Sentinel offers to integrate the information provided by virtual servers directly into its cloud/SaaS software, Sentinel Navigator, through the Virtual Sentinel API. This integration of VMware does not require additional set-ups and allows clients to determine within seconds the storage capacity necessary to roll out virtual servers as well as the capacity available for their roll-outs.

Virtual Sentinel queries the vCenter Server to obtain all its information while collects are undertaken simultaneously on the storage arrays via the manufacturers’ native APIs.

Information from the virtual servers and the storage arrays are sent to the central repository as snapshot files, allowing Sentinel Navigator’s correlation engine to establish the link between storage, SAN and NAS and VMs. The query is carried out in cloud/SaaS mode through a portal, providing information such as how much space the application really takes up or allowing to retrace or produce reports on VM consumption for rebilling.

Like Sentinel Navigator at one price on the storage array, Virtual Sentinel is available on the vCenter Server basis with a yearly subscription (of about 500$/month). This price is to be compared to existing offers which have a cost calculated on the VM.

Virtual Sentinel will integrate Hyper-V and XenServer in the months to come.

SAN Sentinel offers a solution which meets the economic constraints of the storage market. It has been specifically designed to fit the needs of companies wishing to control storage costs in order to maintain the competitiveness of their organizations.

The storage infrastructures have become multi-providers, companies are looking for solutions enabling them to control, on a regular basis, all of their storage arrays as well as networks or the consumption of connected servers. Budget costs have pushed companies towards cloud technologies which supply IT agility by offering services based on a ‘pay as you use’ model, which follows the guidelines of SAN Sentinel SAS developments.
