Permabit Assigned Two Patents

On data de-dupe

Permabit Technology Corporation has been awarded two patents in the area of data deduplication.

The company holds a total of 36 issued patents relating to data reduction technology. Additionally, a previously awarded patent has been reissued and expanded for broader coverage.

Two new patents include:

  • U.S. Patent No. 9,069,707, titled Indexing Deduplicated Data, covers sparse indexing techniques for a deduplication index that allows an extremely small memory footprint by efficiently swapping out portions to persistent storage with minimal performance penalty. The technology this patent represents enables the industry leading storage efficiency and scalability delivered by Permabit Albireo solutions.

  • U.S. Patent No. 9,092,151, titled Managing Deduplication of Stored Data, covers a method for integrating deduplication into the flash translation layer (FTL) of a flash storage device or flash storage system. Such an implementation enables substantial performance, longevity and capacity improvements to a flash-based storage system.

The reissued patent, U.S. Patent No. RE 45,350, supersedes and substantially expands the underlying claims of U.S. Patent No. 7,457,800. This patent describes and protects advances developed for Permabit’s internal file system, which enable Permabit to deliver unprecedented performance and scalability in an inline data deduplication system.

These patents exemplify Permabit’s technical expertise in deduplication, demonstrate our competitive leadership, and are differentiating components in the Albireo products we deliver to our partners,” said Jered Floyd, CTO, Permabit. “By continuing to innovate and pursue additional patent opportunities, we are not only increasing the value of our own product line but that of our partners’ solutions as well.
