Load DynamiX Reveals Workload Insight Manager

And validation appliances

Load DynamiX, Inc., formerly SwiftTest, in infrastructure performance validation, announced the first series of solutions focused on validating the performance of enterprise storage infrastructure.

The Workload Insight Manager and performance validation appliances enable IT architects to match performance requirements with storage investments and reduce storage costs. The solutions align with the evolution and renaming of the company, announced earlier today, as the company extends its performance validation solutions to enterprises and service providers.

Storage is growing at a rate of 30-50% per year and storage-related expenditures to support this growth are fast approaching 40% of the typical global 1000 IT infrastructure budget. As more applications are deployed in big data, virtualized and cloud environments, application workloads are increasing in complexity. Users are accessing data in new, more dynamic ways – at unpredictable times – which is causing ‘workload drift’ and demand spikes. Solutions that understand and can model these traffic patterns and predict response times ensures business-critical application performance under worst-case conditions.

Successful storage deployments require a thorough understanding of application workloads. With deep insight into these workloads, IT organizations can make optimal decisions on storage architecture, technologies, products, and configurations and reduce the risks associated with infrastructure changes,” said Philippe Vincent, president and CEO, Load DynamiX. “Our new workload modeling and storage performance validaion solutions are designed to address these challenges.”

I compare Load DynamiX with my smart phone,” says Julia Palmer, performance engineering manager, Go Daddy. “Once we started using their workload modeling and performance validation appliances, we couldn’t imagine doing our jobs without it. We can now easily validate all new storage technologies before deploying them into production.

The Workload Insight Manager provides detailed analysis of production application workloads including a full command mix, file size, and block size distribution. It uses a web-based GUI to create workload scenarios that can be run on purpose-built high-performance load generation appliances. A new visual testbed interface enables test configuration, automated running of simulations, and a shared library for multiple users to collaborate across the enterprise.

Load DynamiX also released its first generation of performance validation appliances, the Load DynamiX Series, designed for enterprise IT organizations. These appliances are capable of generating massive loads to stress high performance enterprise storage systems to their limits.

The four new models include:

  • 10G Base Series: Includes two 10GbE ports, Workload Insight Manager and support for iSCSI, NFS v2/v3, SMB 2 protocol emulation.
  • 10G Advanced Series: Adds additional support for NFS v4, SMB 3, HTTP/S, CDMI, and OpenStack Swift protocol emulation to the Base Series.
  • FC Series: Includes two 4/8Gb FC ports, Workload Insight Manager and support for FC and SCSI protocol emulation.
  • Unified Series: Includes two 10GbE ports and two 4/8Gb FC ports, Workload Insight Manager and support for iSCSI, NFS v2/v3, SMB2, FC and SCSI protocol emulation.

Load DynamiX is filling a critical customer need by offering an easy way for storage architects to model their application workloads and comprehensively validate the performance of their infrastructure before production deployment,” stated Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst,  Taneja Group. “This enables IT organizations to make architectural and technology decisions based on real performance data which will likely result in dramatically lower storage costs and the elimination of business risk.”

The new products from Load DynamiX are available.
