IBM Spectrum Control V5.2.12 and IBM Virtual Storage Center V5.2.12 extend management functions into hybrid cloud environments

This release delivers following functions and enhancements:

  • Support for hybrid clouds using IBM transparent cloud tiering available in IBM Spectrum Scale
  • Improved information about IBM Spectrum Scale external pools
  • Relationships and other configuration details have been added for IBM Cloud Object Storage
  • Support for IBM FlashSystem A9000 and A9000R
  • Mailed storage cost to consumers with the integrated chargeback reports
  • Combined information about FlashCopy with replication information into a single panel
  • Optimization time definitions can be set to include only certain hours per day

IBM Spectrum Control Standard and Spectrum Control Advanced
This release of IBM Spectrum Control Standard and Advanced editions delivers more value for hybrid cloud environments and continues to add support for new devices, such as the FlashSystem A9000 family, and expands support for IBM Cloud Object Storage from the previous release.

Spectrum Control offers a single pane of glass for infrastructure management of block, file, and object storage resources that can be viewed from different angles, including storage systems, individual volumes, SAN resources, and all the way to server, application, and departments views.

The focus of SRM is starting to shift with this release to provide information about the cost of the resources in the form of chargeback reports, and includes more data management views by displaying protection through copies, mirrors, and replication of data across systems within the storage environment.

Key prerequisites

  • Virtual Storage Center and Virtual Storage Center Entry Edition require IBM SAN Volume Controller nodes or IBM Storwize storage systems.
  • Virtual Storage Center for Storwize requires Storwize systems.

Planned availability date: December 1, 2016, for electronic availability. There is no physical media.
