HDS Storage Virtualization SVOS 7.0 for Virtual Storage Platform Arrays

Adaptive data reduction and support for all-flash cloud tiering

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., announces the next generation of its Storage Virtualization OS, SVOS 7.0, featuring enhanced QoS, adaptive data reduction and support for all-flash cloud tiering.

Available on all company’s Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) arrays, including, enterprise VSP systems, SVOS 7.0 is designed to help businesses deliver better customer experiences and ROIs.

I is critical that customers receive information in real-time and that businesses recognize maximum cost-efficiency from their operations.

To meet these needs, SVOS 7 has been engineered with an improved flash-aware IO stack and:

  • QoS: Prevents workloads from monopolizing bandwidth and dedicates data reduction services to workloads for more predictable latency than other all-flash arrays.

  • Adaptive data reduction: Provides deduplication and compression within SVOS for 2:1, 5:1 or greater capacity savings. SVOS 7 can offload compression to FMDs to lower latency and scale data reduction beyond other all-flash arrays.

  • All-flash cloud tiering: Provides transparent file migration to private or public cloud storage for more predictable costs and faster transitions to all-flash.

SVOS 7.0 is available on all new and existing VSP G series and F series systems. Existing customers can take advantage of SVOS 7.0 and its deduplication and compression features through an upgrade.

With this release, the company is also upgrading its enterprise VSP line. The all-flash VSP F series line is expanding to include the all-flash VSP F1500. Built on high density Flash Module (FMD) technology with capacities of up to 14TB per device, the VSP F1500 delivers over 4.8 million IO/s and up to 40PB of effective flash capacity. Delivering price/performance value, it is designed for enterprise customers looking to drive massive IT consolidation across block, file and mainframe operations.

For businesses looking to transition to all-flash over time, the firm offers the VSP G1500. The VSP G1500 offers 4.8 million IO/s, a 20% improvement over the current VSP G1000, and runs individual workloads up to 40% faster. Existing VSP G1000 customers can upgrade to the G1500 via data in place migration. This simplifies the transition to the more powerful G1500 platform.

In conjunction with the release of SVOS 7 and the enhanced VSP line up the company is upgrading its management stack to simplify data management. New versions of Hitachi Storage Advisor, Automation Director and Infrastructure Analytics Advisor software enable customers to implement SVOS 7 functions and reduce process complexity.

Our customers are not only looking for increased efficiency, productivity and scalability, but also the guarantee of a support system for the longevity of the investment, says a representative of HDS.The ability to predicting our customer’s needs and industry trends is a characteristic unique to HDS, promising viable and measureable customer success.

With an extreme increase in data being produced, our storage requirements are needing a high-performing and secure solution without compromising the cost. The VSP F and G series allow for fully functioning and simplified solutions that meet and exceed our needs, allowing our workloads to increase with the confidence of being supported on every level of scale, said a customer.

In today’s market, we are seeing serious pressure for companies to embrace digital transformation, particularly due to its ability to deliver improved operations, processes and customer experience,” said Marty Sos, senior director, GM, HDS and networking business units, Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions. “With its expanded VSP lineup and enhanced software capabilities, Hitachi Data Systems is helping us accelerate the customer journey to digital transformation.

For many organizations, digital transformation is about increased business performance and improved operational efficiency and customer experience. The same benefits can be applied to the new high-performance VSP F1500 and VSP G1500 offerings and enhanced SVOS 7, Storage Advisor, Automation Director and Infrastructure Analytics Advisor solutions from Hitachi Data Systems,” said SK Choi, manager, marketing, Hyosung Information Systems. “With these in hand, we can help customers realize the benefits of digital transformation.
